2022 Toyota 4Runner
The 2022 model year of the Toyota 4Runner returns with a few updates while retaining its legendary versatility and off-road chops. If you're interested in an SUV that includes the latest in tech, comfort, and convenience, then the new Toyota 4Runner is an excellent model to consider. Updates to the 2022 model year include a new TRD Sport trim option, standard LED headlights, and increased standard safety equipment. The Toyota 4Runner is available in eight trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, Trail Special Edition, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro.
Performance
The new Toyota 4Runner keeps things the same in the engine realm, offering up the same 4.0-liter V6 engine as the previous model year. That's not exactly bad news, either, as the V6 engine manages 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. Working with the sole engine option is a 5-speed automatic transmission. While the engine and transmission can't be changed, drivers can opt for increased off-road performance features. The TRD Pro trim adds 4-wheel drive, crawl control, a Fox high-performance off-road suspension, and multi-terrain select. The TRD Sport trim also gets a unique set of performance features. The TRD Sport includes an X-REAS sport suspension along with interior and exterior TRD features.
Technology
The Toyota 4Runner is much more than a capable off-road vehicle. The 4Runner also manages an ample set of tech features to help drivers stay connected while on the go. The base SR5 trim of the Toyota 4Runner includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a basic audio system, and USB ports. Moving to the SR5 Premium trim adds in increased tech, like a navigation system. If you're interested in even more tech, then stepping to an upper trim like the Limited or TRD Pro might be a good option. The 4Runner Limited includes a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system and a premium chrome-accent multi-information display.
Interior Features
Interior features vary a great deal, with the higher trim levels offering more near-luxury options. The base SR5 includes all the classics that you'd expect, like cloth-trimmed seats, push-button start, and a power liftgate window. The TRD Sport gets a TRD shift knob and SofTex-trimmed seats while the SR5 Premium gets heated front seats and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The TRD Off-Road gets a handful of interior additions, like TRD Off-Road floor mats and other TRD badging. The 4Runner Limited trim offers up the most lavish set of interior features thanks to features like perforated leather-trimmed seats, a power moonroof with sunshade, heated/ventilated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Safety
The Toyota 4Runner makes an ample set of driver assistance features standard with all trim levels while also providing all the classic safety equipment you'd expect. Toyota bundles together driver assistance features via the Toyota Safety Sense package, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning with sway warning. Other notable standard safety offerings include the Star Safety System, airbags, and seat belts. The Star Safety System adds in things like vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes with electric brake force, traction control, a brake override system, and brake assist.

As it stands, Toyota ensure each trim level of the Toyota 4Runner includes a modern set of tech, comfort, and performance features.
